Hi there, we use cookies to improve your experience on our website. You can update your settings by clicking the Privacy policy link at the bottom of the page. Hi I'm planning to go to Sumatra in mid April. I've got LP guide book, but finding it not much useful so far:- I'm planning to arrive to Medan. I can't find anything about the transport from Bukit Lawang to Ketambe - is there any bus there or I have to go back to Medan and find the bus there.
As well if someone could suggest the best circle route exp. If there is anything worth a visit please let me know Thanks a lot Moja. There is no direct route from Bukit Lawang to Ketambe - you will have to go back through Medan. But why would you want to go to Bukit Lawang if you are going to Ketambe? By "climbing Berastagi" I presume you mean the Sibayak volcano. I've never been, but I hear it's not too difficult.
If, on the other hand, you mean Sinabung, you won't be able to climb it because it is erupting and there is a 5km exclusion zone. Or maybe you could fly from Kutacane to Banda Aceh, saving a couple of days' travel through stunningly beautiful landscapes.
There are lots of other places in northern Sumatra that are "worth a visit", but it would help this forum to make suggestions if you let us know what kinds of things you like doing. One more thing is diving - I didn't check much on it, but would prefer to see fish - like manta rays, sharks, mola-mola - but i guess this will be not possible.
As well I would like experience any culture events see some local villages etc. I haven't been to Bukit Lawang since , and they had given up on pretending to rehabilitate orangutans even then. Basically the place was like a big brothel for people from Medan. Maybe someone who has been there more recently can give you some more up-to-date information.
